BRIDGTON — Self-taught artist Karen Pettengill of Harrison will be the guest artist at Gallery 302 beginning June 19. Karen’s work has been shown at juried and invitational venues in Maine, Kentucky, California, Louisiana, New York and Massachusetts. In 1997 to 1999, she was a featured cartoonist for Horse Illustrated Magazine. In 2009 she was a Maine Arts Grant recipient for a project in Freeport.

When talking about her work, the artist says, “The more I paint, the more I realize just how important my life experience, dreams, and environment are to my work. I paint images that are not so much literal translations of the immediate but rather ideas and feelings that come from those places, to tell a story or express something about the beauty and mystery of nature.”

Karen works from photographs taken on her travels in New England and the Southwest. Subjects include landscapes, New England buildings, dogs, cats, and horses, as well as nocturnal settings.

Pettengill’s work will be at Gallery 302 until July 23rd. Gallery 302 is located at 112 Main Street in Bridgton. For more information, call 207-647-2787 or visit gallery302.com.
