The Lewiston Area Public Health Committee is grateful that COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations in Maine have significantly declined. However, COVID-19 is still impacting the lives of Mainers and others throughout the nation. In that regard, the committee believes that vaccinating as many members of the community as possible is crucially important.
To promote COVID-19 vaccinations, the committee seeks pictures of Lewiston residents holding up a sign, with words or a picture, that says or shows why they chose to be vaccinated.
Those who would like to submit such a sign, to be part of a “My Why” vaccination slideshow for public circulation, can email submissions to [email protected], and include their name, address, and contact phone/email. Names and contact information will not be publicly used.
The deadline is July 1, and by submitting a sign each participant will be agreeing that their submission can be shared on social media, Lewiston’s website, and in efforts to encourage vaccination.
Such submissions are on a volunteer basis for no monetary gain. Submission selection will be at the discretion of the committee, and participants are asked to be sensitive in their wording, respecting the fact that people have different viewpoints.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
