Lionel Euclide Bedard
LEWISTON – Lionel Euclide Bedard, 91, of Lewiston died suddenly, but peacefully at St. Mary’s Hospital at 3:00 a.m. on June 13, 2021, after a short illness. Lionel was born in Lewiston on March 25, 1930 to Alcide and Blanche Begin Bedard. Lionel was a Lewiston native, born and raised in a typical farming community in the depression era. As a civilian, he lived his entire life there. He was schooled and played hockey as a member of Holy Family parish. He went to work for the Knapp Shoe mill in Lewiston as a sole layer for several years. He then enlisted in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War. Trained by the Navy as an electrician, he served on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Randolph and traveled around the world to Cuba, Haiti, Italy, France, Greece, Pompeii, Capri, Gibraltar, Africa, Spain and Monte Carlo and further. Lionel also served in the Army National Guard of Maine retiring in 1983. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he went to work for the City of Lewiston as a firefighter, an electrician, and then retired.While on a trip to St. Quinton, New Brunswick, Canada visiting friends, he met his wife to be, Lina Lafrance, and they were married Oct. 1, 1956. Lionel took his bride and settled in Lewiston. They had two children, Diane and Marc Bedard. Lionel was a humble, quiet, and loving man. He lived a life well lived and will surely be missed. He was a prolific reader, surrounding himself with books, and a talented musician. Self-taught in his youth, Lionel played the fiddle and mandolin among other instruments, entertaining friends and family. His musical gift earned him best fiddler competition at the Common Ground Fair in 1992.Lionel was predeceased by his wife of 34 years in 1990. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Bedard Falcey of Conway N.H. and son, Marc Bedard of Lewiston. Lionel leaves behind his four grandchildren, Lionel Jr Bedard, Michael Bedard, Nathanial Bedard, of Lewiston and stepgrandson, Scott Cloutier of Newton, N.H.; a brother Ronald Bedard and sister-in-law Gloria of Sabattus, and sister Henrietta and brother-in-law Ray Charpentier of Santa Barbara, Calif.; nephews Dan Boutin, Michael Boutin, Raymond Dionne and Roger Morin, Norm Bedard and John Charpentier, nieces Jane Boyer, Roxanne Caron, Michelle Bedard, Susan and Sandy Charpentier. Lionel was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Sister Jeannine Bedard, Lillian Morin, Loretta Dionne and Muriel Boutin, his brothers-in-law, Norm Boutin, Roland Morin and Roland Dionne; and sisterr-in-law Doris Bedard.Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9 at 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home located at 253 Pine Street in Lewiston, followed by interment at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
