BETHEL — Jeremy Sinkus, glass artist out of Shelburn, MA, will be displaying his mineral-inspired glass artwork at the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum until August 3.
Sinkus uses specialized techniques such as flame-working with an oxy/propane torch, kiln casting, and coldworking to achieve the unique effects that result in richly textured glass that is visually akin to minerals such as tourmaline, quartz, and others. “I want to capture that element of excitement when you are the first to see a crystal extracted from the Earth,” says Sinkus, describing his process and what inspires him to create. Pieces on display include framed, three-dimensional wall panels, high-end mineral themed glassware, crystal spheres crafted with Borosilicate glass, and much more.
