Contance (Dumont) Brousseau Spencer

AUBURN – Constance (Dumont) Brousseau Spencer, 87, passed away on June 20, 2021 at her home, with loving family by her side.Born in Lewiston on August 13, 1933, the daughter of Cora and Gerald Dumont. Connie grew up on Lincoln Street, where she attended St. Mary’s school until the 8th grade, achieving her GED later in life. She married her first love, Robert B. Brousseau, on April 18, 1953 and started a large family that is still growing. She worked for several shoe companies, stitching leather boot parts at home, while up to 16 neighborhood kids would gather at their home where they waited for the school bus. She enjoyed dancing, knitting, crocheting, going to the ocean, but spending time with her family was most important.Together, they raised a close family of nine children that bestowed to them 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Tragedy struck when they lost their young son, Barry Owen, at the age of 16 months. On April 2, 1977, just shy of their 24th wedding anniversary, her loving husband left to be with our Lord. Connie took to raising their children and grandchildren, while making sure all felt Bob’s love. On Jan. 12, 1979 she married her second love, Ralph C. Spencer II; a wonderful family man and father of five. The two families grew together as one, frequently referred to as the Brousseau/Spencer clan. With Ralph by her side, Connie experienced exciting new adventures: traveling, hunting, fishing, and camping. They built a 40-acre homestead in Carthage where the family would gather for many years, making everlasting memories. On Dec. 28, 2016 she lost her second love of almost 38 years. Connie was preceded in death by her parents; son, Barry (1962); brother, Ronald Dumont (1998), sister, Terry Hebert (2019), sister, Rachel Grant (2020); stepdaughter, Carol Berube (2012); and step-grandson, Michael Biker (2013). Connie is survived by her daughters Gloria Thomas, Rita Cote, Linda Williams, Patricia Baril, and Pamela Keene, sons Dana, Garry, and James Brousseau; brother, Roger Dumont; stepchildren Melodye Brousseau, Brenda Giasson, Ralph Spencer III, and Carlton Spencer; 33 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews; extended family and friends. Connie had taken care of others her entire life, from her siblings to her late husband in her 80s. She had a heart of gold, a beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and was the foundation of her family. It was an honor for her daughters and granddaughter, Sebrina Cote, to care for her in her final moments. The family would like to thank Connie’s niece, Kelley Roy, and friend, Diana Collins, for their support and assistance when needed, as well as Androscoggin Home Health and Hospice for caring for Connie with such dignity and grace. You are invited to offer condolences and pay tribute to Constance’s life by visiting her guest book at http://www.thefortingrouplewiston.com Visitation, Fortin Lewiston, Monday June 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 29 at 11 a.m. at The Basilica of Ss.
