Temperatures will reach into the 90s Monday, making it the hottest day this week. And the humidity will make it feel even hotter, between 95-104 degrees.

A heat advisory has been issued from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for areas where the humidity will drive the heat indices into the upper 90s to low 100s.

The National Weather Services advises everyone to drink plenty of fluids, stay in cooled rooms, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.

It’s a good day to “hide in the basement, at a beach or under a sprinkler,” said Margaret Curtis, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Maine.

The temperature was expected to hit 95 degrees on Monday in Portland, approaching a record high. But it’ll feel far hotter because of humidity that’s high enough that “you feel like you can swim through the air,” she said.

Thunderstorms are also likely Monday afternoon, but scattered and mostly focused on central and midcoast Maine. The primary threat is for strong gusty winds within storms, and some heavy downpours are likely.

Tuesday and Wednesday will also be hot and humid with more highs in the low 90s.

Tuesday through Sunday all have rain and thunderstorm chances, especially Wednesday through Friday.
