Sen. Susan Collins recently voted to avoid debate on the voting rights bill, stating it “would take away the rights of people in each of the 50 states to determine which election rules work best for their citizens.”
Sen. Collins purposely ignores the history of voter suppression in this country: Poll taxes, bogus literacy tests, etc. These were all instituted by individual states. Only when Congress made these illegal were they forbidden.
Sen. Collins ignores partisan gerrymandering (by both parties).
Sen. Collins ignores current new laws which clearly aim to discourage voting by poor people and working people (citing the false motive of election security).
It is a shame Sen. Collins lacks the backbone to stand up for equality and justice.
