The Denmark Arts Center hosts an art opening for “Captured & Rendered” with Heather Newton Brown from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 3, at Denmark Arts Center in Denmark.

Heather Newton Brown and her artwork for open the gallery for the summer. Guests will be able to walk through and speak with the artist, who will discuss her work, style, and inspirations. Food and refreshments will be served.

Newton Brown is a Maine-raised visual artist currently living in Casco with her husband and family. She identifies as an “outsider artist,” who is largely self-taught, with instruction from local master-painter Pat Chandler and guidance from advisors at Goddard College. Newton Brown has a bachelor of arts degree from Goddard College and also holds a master’s degree in counseling.

Newton Brown explores layers of physical and psychic material, natural forms, elemental influences. Inspired by the intersection of the personal and transpersonal, physical, and etheric, she uses encaustic, mixed media, mineral pigments and found items. She has shown work in a variety of venues in Maine, Vermont, and New York, and focuses largely on showing work in venues that will promote social change.

She is a long-term volunteer for Wabanaki REACH and a supporter of many other initiatives. When not painting, Heather enjoys spending time with her 4-legged and human companions, cooking, hiking, gardening, paddle boarding, or other nature pursuits. Heather’s work can be found online at: or

Denmark Arts Center Gallery opens for the summer on July 3 and is open every Saturday from 12-4 p.m. The Denmark Arts Center is an award-winning 501(c)3 cultural organization founded in 1994 in the rural community of Denmark.
