Jeannette M. Croteau

AUBURN – Jeannette M. Croteau, 87, of Lewiston passed away Sunday afternoon June 27, 2021, at The Hospice House with family at her side. She was born in Berlin, N.H., Dec. 12, 1933, one of seven children born to Edward and Eva (Croteau) Murphy. She was educated in Berlin, N.H., schools and graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1952. Jeannette was married on June 14, 1958 to Robert Croteau who predeceased her on November 27, 2014 following 56 years of marriage. Together they had their only child, a son, Bruce. Jeannette worked many years at J.C. Penney, beginning in the Lewiston store and retiring form the Auburn store at the Auburn Mall in 2007. During those years, she made many friends with customers and co-workers alike. She was a parishioner of Holy Family Church at Prince of Peace Parish. Among her favorite enjoyments was watching her favorite team, the Red Sox. She even attended Sox games in New York, Baltimore and Toronto, as well as Boston. Another one of her pastimes that brought her great joy and was dear to her heart was sending greeting cards to her family and friends for any special occasion, year after year. This thoughtful gesture even earned her the nickname, “The Card Lady.” Jeannette also enjoyed shopping. Each time her friend Helen would call her to go, her answer was always “What time?” “I’ll be ready.” They would shop and take a break for “Happy Hour” and have a bite to eat at one of their several favorite area restaurants.

Jeannette was a loving, devoted and hardworking wife, mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.

She leaves behind her son, Bruce Croteau and his wife Tina of So. Paris; her granddaughter, Danielle Philbrook and her husband Colin of Auburn; her grandson, Jordan Croteau of So. Paris; and a very close and supportive friend, Helen Bosse of Lewiston. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews in New Hampshire, all of whom were very dear to her. Jeannette was predeceased by her husband, Bob, four brothers, Ernest, Bob, Rev. Romeo Murphy OMI and George, two sisters, Isabelle Blais and Dorothy Murphy and her parents Edward and Eva Murphy. Visitation Fortin Group / LEWISTON Thursday 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial Holy Family Church Friday 11 a.m. Committal and burial will take place at a later date in New Hampshire.
