Lorraine E. (Arsenault) Poirier

RUMFORD – Lorraine E. (Arsenault) Poirier, 88, peacefully passed away on July 1, 2021 at the Rumford Community Hospital.

Lorraine was born on April 30, 1933 in Mexico Maine to Calais and Winnie Arsenault. She attended Mexico High where she played basketball and was a cheerleader and graduated in 1951.

She married Bernard Poirier in 1956. They raised their two children in Rumford where she worked at the grocery store and later at the schools in the cafeteria.

Lorraine was a dedicated and active member of the Parish of the Holy Savior. She was an ever present and supportive mother to her children driving to as many sporting events as she could to cheer them on. After her children left home she visited often and always kept a welcoming home ready for visits by her kids, grandkids, family and neighbors. There was always a home baked dessert and tea at the ready.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard, her brothers, Alvin, Edward, Henry, Raymond and Benjamin Arsenault and her sister, Mildred Jamison.

Lorraine will be greatly missed by her son Gregory and his wife Shannon of Heber City, Utah, her daughter, Barbara and her husband David of Steamboat Springs, Colo. and her four granddaughters, Danielle, Brienne (Gregory) Talia and Kaylen (Barbara). She is also survived by one brother, Urbain Arsenault.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Parish of the Holy Savior St. Athanasius & St. John Church 10 am on Tuesday July 6, 2021. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, Maine. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader and Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin Street Rumford.
