The West Auburn Congregational Church, UCC, recently celebrated the 150th anniversary of the opening of the doors of the building on West Auburn Road. Although the church was founded in 1791, the congregation met in several locations until 1846 when the present church was built. On June 23 a regular worship service. conducted by the Rev. Andrew White, pastor of the church, started the day of celebration. After the conclusion of the service, an old-fashioned hymn-sing was held, with Charlie Marshall, church organist, accompanying the singing of hymns selected by members of the congregation. After the service, refreshments were served in the vestry. Old-fashioned games for the children were organized by Joan Wenzel and Dianne O’Conner. At 11 a.m., the group moved down the road to the West Auburn School. Many members of the church had made box lunches of food that would have been common in 1846.
