Keenan Welzel, left, and Mark St. Louis place the last section of dock July 12 into the Androscoggin River, while assembling Lewiston’s boat dock next to Simard-Payne Memorial Park. The low-profile rowing dock is on loan to the city from EZ Dock of Maine through mid-August and is open to the public. The dock is to be the center of the Androscoggin Riverfest, scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday. Amy Smith of Lewiston Rowing says it is ideal for small paddle craft, and is the same system used by the Bates College rowing teams farther up the river. EZ Dock of Maine owner Eric Welzel says the same system will be used during the Olympic Games in Tokyo at the end of July. Smith says there will be a discussion in August to see if the dock will be installed on the river every summer. Daryn Slover/Sun Journal

Scott Vaillancourt, music director at the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul in Lewiston, looks July 14 through a set of open swell shades, or shutters, deep inside the Casavant organ, surrounded by its wooden and metal pipes. Recent heavy rain leaked through the roof and walls onto leather pouch boards about 20 feet above him that cracked, causing the organ to malfunction when he turned it on for Sunday morning Mass. The damaged parts have been removed and parts of the organ have been shut down. Although it is still functional and will continue to be used, the organ is not as robust as usual so the upcoming scheduled organ concerts have been postponed. Vaillancourt sys he expects it will be fixed by early August, when the concert series is expected to resume. Russ Dillingham/Sun Journal
