PHILLIPS – “Our Neck of the Woods” was the theme of the Narrow Gauge Quilters’ show held last month at the Paul G. Whittemore Building in Phillips. According to President Sheila Driscoll, “Over 100 visitors were thrilled by the unique vignettes depicting life and adventure in Maine.”

These vignettes included everything from hunting and camping to picnics and gardening.

“Visitors were thrilled by the unique setup of the quilts within the various scenes,” Driscoll added, “Overall the feedback from viewers was extremely positive.”

The Peoples’ Choice Award was presented to Anne Baker of Avon by Driscoll. Baker’s blue and off-white “Snails Tails” quilt was chosen by the viewers’ as their favorite.

In addition to enjoying the displays, guests had fun spinning The Wheel of Fortune. Several door prizes were also awarded.

The Narrow Gauge Quilters’ 2020 king-sized quilt was on display. Raffle tickets for this treasure are being sold until Aug. 22, the Sunday of Old Home Days, when the lucky winner’s name will be drawn.

The Narrow Gauge Quilters are a quilting group from the Sandy River Valley area in Western Maine. They meet at the Phillips Public Library on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. “We would love to have you join us,” Driscoll said.
