LEWISTON — An 82-year-old Augusta woman was examined for pain Wednesday after her SUV flipped onto its roof in a collision with a pickup truck on Main Street.

Police said Patricia Dostie was making a left turn onto Main Street from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge about 2 p.m. when her car was struck by a pickup truck heading outbound on Main Street.

The driver of the pickup, 60-year-old Alan Gay, of Farmington Falls had failed to stop at a red light, police added. His 2005 Nissan collided with Dostie’s 2004 Ford Escape, causing it to flip over in the street near the bridge overpass.

Dostie was taken to Central Maine Medical Center to be examined for complaints of pain. Gay was not hurt in the wreck.

The crash caused traffic to back up on both sides of Main Street as police, fire and rescue crews responded to the scene.

Both vehicles were towed. Police were continuing to investigate the crash later Wednesday.
