The Town of Rangeley has received $871,082.09 and is still owed another $178,384.74 for the sale of Chick Hill material used on the Airport Expansion Project.  Of this $1,049,466.80 total, $871,082.09 had been placed into the Airport Reserve account.  The FAA sent the Town a letter in January 2020 stating that the Chick Hill material money was not airport money.
On March 3, 2021 the Selectmen voted to transfer $175,000.00 of that money to other Town Department reserve accounts.  This action prevented the need to raise that sum through new taxation.  At their August 2nd meeting the Selectmen voted unanimously (5-0) to transfer $578,399.84 of Chick Hill material money out of the Airport Reserve and into the General Reserve account.  These General Reserve funds should be available to help offset future tax increases.  The Airport Reserve account still has a balance of approximately $191,000.00.
The Selectmen started their August 2nd meeting with a “Tax Acquired Property” bid opening.  The Town acquired a boat slip at the Haines Landing Marina Dockominiums due to approximately $900.00 in delinquent taxes.  Two bids were received with the successful bidder offering $30,150.00.
Two letters were received by the Selectmen from residents of the Alpine Acres Home Owners Association.  The residents expressed concerns about an AirBnB house being rented out in their neighborhood that seems to attract clientele exhibiting disorderly behavior.  Town Manager Joe Roach has already started looking into the situation.  He will advise the Board members of the Town’s role in these types of matters at their next meeting.
Pay requests from M & H Construction for the City Hill Sidewalk Project and E. L. Vining for the Loon Lake Road Project were approved.
Dawn Field, Laura Reynolds and Kate Williams were appointed to the Rangeley Region Economic Opportunity Committee.  Ethna Thompson was reappointed to the Ordinance Committee.
The Rangeley Boosters were issued a permit to hold the Blueberry Festival in the Rangeley Town Park on August 19, 2021.
The next Selectmen’s meeting is August 16th and will start with a tour of the Oquossoc Fire Station at 4:30pm.  The meeting will continue at the Rangeley Town Office with a presentation by North Star Ambulance Service Director Mike Senecal at 6:00pm.  Goose management information will follow with a joint presentation by Maine IF&W and USDA Wildlife Services.
The Board of Selectmen’s meetings are available live via Zoom, or pre-recorded via You Tube.  Both can be accessed through the Town’s website, townofrangeley.com.
