Richard “Rich” H. Gallop
MONMOUTH – Richard “Rich” H. Gallop, 83, a resident of Monmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021, in Stratton. He was born Jan. 14, 1938, in Mexico, Maine, the son of Richard A. Gallop and Evelyn (Young) Gallop. He was educated in the Mexico area schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a warrant officer, he enlisted at the age of 17 and served for more than 20 years of active duty, ending his service in Vietnam, where he was awarded the bronze star medal and others. In 1956 he married Nancy Hathaway in Monmouth and they had two sons, Richard R., and Benjamin A. Gallop. His wife died in 1987 and Benjamin died in 2016. After retiring from the Army, he was the owner and operator of Rich’s Radiator-Repair business in Monmouth and drove a school bus and van for the Monmouth schools. On June 18, 1988, he married Judith E. Mason in North Turner. Rich enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, and spending time with family. He had a great passion for playing and teaching chess, lately he would play games online.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Judy Gallop of Monmouth, a son, Russ Gallop of Lewiston, five grandchildren; Amanda Gallop, Ryan Gallop, Joshua Gallop, Meagan Annear, Robin Siderio, five great-grandchildren, six stepchildren; Dennis Hutchinson and his wife Marianne, Tammy Birtwell and her husband Mark, Barry Green and his companion, Sondra, Barbie-Jo Clement and her husband Ronney, Michele Green and her companion Bill, Kimberly Mason and her husband Phillip, 15 step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, and a brother, Benjamin Gallop and his wife Mary of North Carolina. He was predeceased by his parents, his former wife, Nancy A. Gallop, a son, Benjamin A. Gallop, a sister, Joyce Longley and two half-brothers. Funeral service with full military honors will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021, at the BRAGDON-FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 707 Main Street, Monmouth, Maine. Visiting will be from 12 p.m., noon to 1 p.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Monmouth Ridge Cemetery, Monmouth, Maine
