Vernon J. Tardif
AUBURN – Vernon J. Tardif, 77, of Auburn, passed away peacefully at his home on August 9, 2021, surrounded by family.
Born in Van Buren on July 22, 1944, he was son of the late Albert and Germaine Tardif. The family relocated to Lewiston and he was educated in the local school system.
On August 21, 1965, he married Irene Blanchard at St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston. He then went on to work as a local and long-haul truck driver until his retirement, bringing him across 43 states and three Canadian provinces.
He was a proud veteran serving 21 years as sergeant (E5) in the Maine Army National Guard Company C 133d Engineer Battalion.
In his spare time despite the extensive travel throughout his career he still looked forward to Sunday drives to many beloved destinations. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family. He was a kind and gentle man to everyone and his humor and fun loving nature will truly be missed.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene; four daughters, Diane Boilard and husband Dennis, Debra Hinson and fiancé Gerard Grenier, Kathy Tardif and companion Matt Guay, Linda St. Pierre and husband Rob, and one son, Stephen Tardif. He was a loving and supportive grandfather to six grandchildren, Tyler Boilard, Brandon Tardif, Kelsey Boilard, Kristen Hinson, Christopher Tardif, and Jaden Barker; and two great-grandchildren. Vernon is also survived by siblings Rita Morin, Clarence Tardif and wife Odette, Joan Rusk and husband Roger, and Nelson Tardif and wife Joan.
He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Germaine Tardif.
Services will be Tuesday, August 17, 11 a.m., at Holy Family Church in Lewiston. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Memories may be shared at http://www.albert-burpee.com.
