LEWISTON — Bates College graduated 469 students from 38 states and 43 countries on May 27 in an historic double ceremony allowing for social distancing among the graduates and their guests.

The local graduates include:

William Davis of Fryeburg graduated after majoring in interdisciplinary studies and minoring in digital and computational studies. Davis, the son of Kathleen D. Hunsicker and Calvin E. Hunsicker, is a 2017 graduate of Fryeburg Academy. Davis graduates as a member of Sigma Xi, an honor society that recognizes excellence in scientific research.

Austin Dumont of Auburn graduated magna cum laude after majoring in politics and minoring in education. Dumont, the son of Rene L. Dumont and Julia Dumont, is a 2017 graduate of Edward Little High School. Dumont graduates as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an organization recognized as conferring the highest undergraduate academic honors and as the oldest Greek letter society in the US.

Thaddeus Gunther of Farmington graduated cum laude after majoring in biology. Gunther, the son of Eric V. Gunther and Judith A. Gunther, is a 2017 graduate of Mount Blue High School. Gunther graduates as a member of Sigma Xi, an honor society that recognizes excellence in scientific research.

Charlotte Lynskey of Lewiston graduated magna cum laude after majoring in psychology. Lynskey, the daughter of Bronwyn J. Lynskey and Peter J. Lynskey, is a 2017 graduate of Sage Hill School. Lynskey graduates as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an organization recognized as conferring the highest undergraduate academic honors and as the oldest Greek letter society in the US.

Travis Palmer of Rumford graduated after majoring in sociology and minoring in education Palmer, the son of Marcy L. Michaud, is a 2017 graduate of Mountain Valley High School. Palmer graduates as a member of the College Key, an honor reserved for students who have exhibited outstanding character, academic excellence, campus and community service, leadership and future promise.

Tyler Simmons of Lewiston graduated magna cum laude after majoring in physics and Chinese and minoring in mathematics. Simmons, the son of Richard T. Simmons and Jennifer S. Simmons, is a 2016 graduate of the Maine School of Science and Mathematics. Simmons graduates as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an organization recognized as conferring the highest undergraduate academic honors and as the oldest Greek letter society in the US.

Hannah Sweeney of Lewiston graduated cum laude after majoring in history. Sweeney, the daughter of Jerome V. Sweeney III and Margaret H. Sweeney, is a 2017 graduate of Franklin High School. Sweeney graduates as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an organization recognized as conferring the highest undergraduate academic honors and as the oldest Greek letter society in the US. Sweeney was also inducted into the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, an organization which honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years.

Matt Hanus of Lewiston graduated after majoring in environmental studies and minoring in history. Hanus, the son of Susan S. Hanus and Michael Hanus, is a 2016 graduate of Burke Mountain Academy. Hanus was inducted into the Bates Scholar-Athlete Society, an organization which honors graduating seniors who have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or have received special nomination from the faculty for outstanding academic achievement in their junior and senior years, and who have participated in a varsity sport for a minimum of three years.

Jenny Martin of Lewiston graduated after majoring in history. Martin, the daughter of Kathy L. Martin and Derwood Martin, is a 2017 graduate of Lewiston High School.

Bridget Tweedie of Brownfield graduated after majoring in biology and minoring in chemistry. Tweedie, the daughter of Peter A. Tweedie and Lauren R. Tweedie, is a 2017 graduate of Fryeburg Academy.

Solaine Carter of Lewiston graduated after majoring in rhetoric. Carter, the daughter of Paul E. Carter and Beth A. Mitchneck, is a 2017 graduate of Catalina Foothills High School.

Skye Conley of Lewiston graduated after majoring in psychology. Conley, the daughter of Katherine Flint, is a 2017 graduate of Gray New Gloucester High School.

Mari Sato of Lewiston graduated after majoring in art and visual culture. Sato, the daughter of Kazutoshi Sato, is a 2007 graduate of McMinnville Senior High School.

Prisca Mbunga of Greene graduated after majoring in biology. Mbunga is the daughter of Antoine Kikobo and Brigitte Dielumbaka.

John Phillips of New Gloucester graduated cum laude after majoring in history and minoring in anthropology. Phillips, the son of Mark O. Phillips and Louise C. Phillips, is a 2017 graduate of Gray New Gloucester High School.

Tucker Barber of Wilton graduated after majoring in physics and mathematics and minoring in digital and computational studies. Barber, the son of Douglas K. Barber and Donna M. Barber, is a 2017 graduate of Mount Blue High School.

Tucker Pierce of New Gloucester graduated after majoring in environmental studies and minoring in history. Pierce, the son of Daniel K. Pierce and Sarah C. Pierce, is a 2017 graduate of Maine Coast Waldorf School.

Noah Dumont of Auburn graduated after majoring in sociology. Dumont, the son of Rene L. Dumont and Julia Dumont, is a 2017 graduate of Edward Little High School.
