Jackson Arthur Tupper II
DURHAM – Jackson Arthur Tupper II (Jack or J2) of Durham passed away peacefully Saturday, July 31, 2021, in Lewiston, Maine. He was born Feb. 5, 1948, in Lisbon Falls, the eldest son of Jackson and Mary Alice (Bourgoin) Tupper. He was educated in Durham schools, beginning with his first four years at the Crosman Corner one-room schoolhouse. He graduated from Lisbon High School in the class of 1966, and from the University of Maine in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. He worked in Essex, Mass., and Florida before joining the Maine Department of Transportation, retiring in 2003 after 25 years. As senior bridge supervisor, he traveled the state from Kittery to Fort Kent, inspecting bridges and making recommendations for repair and replacement. As a result, he could recite the location and route number of every bridge in the state. Jack was kindhearted and generous, and he found joy in butterflies, the mountains and the beach. He loved to jog, logging many miles at Popham and Old Orchard beaches and up Tumbledown Mountain, where he cut the original trail from the backside of Tumbledown Pond to Little Jackson Mountain. He lived on Sand Pond in Litchfield, Maine, for many years and loved to get out of his car at the end of the workday, run down the dock and jump in the water. He is survived by his sister, Joan Tupper Anderson (Jonathan) of Durham; his brother, Robert Tupper (Rhonda); nephews, Jason Turcotte (Jessica) of Durham and children Cyndle, Trinity, Talon, and Jazmin, and Mitchell Tupper (Sarah) of Oakland and son Ivan; and nieces, Macee T. Damon (David) of Arlington, Mass., and Melinda Tupper Benevides (Thomas) and children Aubrey and Austin of East Freetown, Mass. He was predeceased by his parents and his younger brother Thomas Mitchell Tupper. The family would like to express their gratitude to Jackson’s extraordinary caregivers and leaders at Russell Park Residential Care. It was Jack’s wish that no formal services be held. The family encourages those who wish to honor his love of God’s creation and his adventurous spirit to spend time in nature. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tacoma Lakes Association PO Box 293 Litchfield, ME 04350-0293
