Winner Tom Bingham of Nutly, NJ and Sweden, ME and Linda Bradley “shake” hands after Tom announced he would return his winnings to the Sweden Food Pantry.

SWEDEN — Each year the Sweden Food Pantry sponsors a raffle to raise money in conjunction with Sweden Days, held during the first weekend in August.  This year, the Pantry’s Board of Directors opted for a simple 50/50 raffle.  Board members sold raffle tickets to family, friends, and themselves.  But a goodly amount of the tickets were sold during Sweden Days. Total raffle sales were $1800. In addition, cards produced with Tilla Durr’s beautiful photographs were sold to benefit the pantry.  Donations were also accepted. Tom Bingham of Nutly, New Jersey, and Sweden, Maine, was the winner of the $900, 50 percent of the dollars raised through the sale of raffle tickets. Tom immediately decided to return his winnings to the Sweden Food Pantry.

Linda Bradley remarked, “We are neighbors helping neighbors.  Tom’s decision to return his winnings to the Sweden Food Pantry allows us to do more for our clients. Thank you so much, Tom Bingham.”

The Sweden Food Pantry is open twice a month, on the first and third Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Located in the basement of the Sweden Community Church on Route 93 (Sweden’s four corners area), it serves an average of 40 families, representing about 120 individuals during each pantry opening.  The pantry has served over 11 communities, but the bulk of the families are from Bridgton, Fryeburg, Lovell, Sweden, and Waterford.  The mailing address is 137 Bridgton Road, Sweden, Maine, 04040. For more information about the pantry, contact Linda Bradley, Executive Director, at 207-647-5735.
