Clifford H. Tenney

FAYETTE – Clifford H. Tenney, 99, a resident of Livermore, passed away Thursday, August 19th in Fayette at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Candace and Fred Jackman, where he had resided for the past 4 years. He was born to Harold Clifford Tenney and Mary (Faulkner) Tenney on April 4, 1922 at the family’s North Livermore home. He and his brother Donald worked alongside their parents at the Tenney General Store and Post Office. He was a 1940 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 during WWII, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. He met the love of his life Marion Grace Reynolds in 1947. On February 4, 1948 he asked her to marry him, she accepted and they were married June 20, 1948 in Portland. They enjoyed 71 years together before her passing on April 11, 2020. Together, they raised their 5 daughters just down the road from his boyhood home. Cliff worked for International Paper Company for 43 years, retiring in July of 1984. They owned and operated Tenney’s A-Frame, known for their lobster rolls and banana splits. Years later Tenney’s Store was reopened by Cliff and Marion as 4 T’s Antiques (Tenney’s, Trinkets, Treasures and Trash). He was a member of the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post #3335, Amvets Post #33 in Jay and the George Bunton Post #10 American Legion in Livermore Falls. Clifford has always shown a deep love, commitment, and appreciation of his North Livermore community. He was a volunteer firefighter, treasurer of the nearby church and janitor for the Payson Smith School, which now houses the Town Office and Fire Station. Cliff proudly rode in the annual Jay/Livermore Falls Memorial Day Parade, sporting his Army uniform and WWII veteran’s hat. At age 97, Cliff was seen at Stevenson’s, down on his hands and knees showing what it takes to carefully pick strawberries. Later in the season, he and Marion took a ride through Boothby’s Orchards and picked some apples. No matter where he was, Clifford fondly remembered his North Livermore roots.
