Phillip A. Mitchell Sr.

MECHANIC FALLS –

Phillip A. Mitchell Sr., 87, born in Farmington, died August 24, 2021, at Androscoggin Hospice House Auburn.

Phil married Louise in August 1953, they raised five children, in Auburn. Phil was an entrepreneur starting a garage and salvage yard in the 70’s, then back to his first love of logging in 1980 moving to Poland. He worked in the wood business till 2017 and at age 83 he finally stopped doing firewood.

He enjoyed racing and going fast, he raced at Oxford Plains Speedway in the 60’s, then supported his sons in later years. He belonged to the Poland Sno Travelers and enjoyed snowmobiling with the family. They loved camping at local campgrounds and sitting around the fire!

Phil was a beloved supportive member of Marston’s Corner Baptist Church in Auburn for 50 years. He touched many hearts and held deacon positions in the church.

He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years. He is survived by their children Gail Fernett and husband Greg of Virginia and sons Mark Bonin, Ryan, and Charles Fernett; Cindy Wadsworth and husband George of Auburn, children Corey, Chris, and Candice Lamontagne; Phil Mitchell Jr. and wife Diane of Minot, sons Phil III, and Todd Mitchell; Brian Mitchell of Minot, daughters Amy Bean, Angela Mitchell, Amanda Bryant; Barbara Reed husband Andrew of Poland, children John Jr., and Brian Varney, Sarah Hiebert, Elizabeth Giarusso, Katie Knapp; Plus, the grandchildren’s spouses; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Melba Smith of Massachusetts; special family friend Nancy Labbe. He was predeceased by parents; and nine siblings.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday August 29, at 2 p.m. Marston’s Corner Baptist Church.
