Fred Elmer Lumbert
FORT MILL, S.C. – Fred Elmer Lumbert was born on May 22, 1935 in Livermore Falls, Maine and departed this life for Heaven on August 23, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank E. Lumbert and Blanche Lumbert and his sisters, Mabel Adams and Barbara Jordan. Left behind to celebrate Fred’s life are his wife of 63 years, Kikuko K. Lumbert and four loving daughters, Barbara A. Zouboukos (Constantine), Beverly L. Lumbert, Diane M. Thorne (Tim) and Donna J. Lumbert (Dan Johnson.)Fred was especially proud of his grandchildren, Matthew L. Thorne (Ansley), his great-grandson, Brooks Thorne, and granddaughters, Mallory Samuelson (Ben), Melanie Johnson and Chloe Johnson.Fred served his country in the United States Air Force and as a civil servant for 43 years as a communication specialist, joining at age 18 and travelling the world to places like Japan and Alaska, where he and Kikuko made a lifetime of friends and memories. Fred loved car racing and baseball, especially the Boston Red Sox. The New England Patriots was his favorite football team. Among the greatest gifts of his life was being a “girl dad” to four women he raised to be independent and strong. He believed in the value of a strong work ethic and was always there to listen to and guide his daughters. Fred loved the five important women in his life.As a proud grandfather, Fred attended graduations, baseball games, gymnastics meets and many special family occasions. Being with family was the most important thing in his life. His family is Fred’s proudest legacy.A private memorial service will be held Sep. 2, 2021 at Southern Heritage Funeral home and Cemetery in Pelham, Ala. Burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Ala.
