DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone/company in the Lewiston-Auburn area that patches polypropylene mesh winter safety pool covers?  We have a large in-ground pool cover for a 20- by 40-foot pool that appears to have been a source of “pleasurable munching” for rodents. It needs to be repaired prior to closing our pool for the winter. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I believe Glamour Pools & Spas in Lisbon can help with this. Their number is 784-6538. They are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Ledgewater Pools in Falmouth (797-7752) is a third business that may be able to assist you. They are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: If people need food for their cats and dogs, the Franklin County Animal Shelter gives pet food to persons in need. — Cindy, no town

ANSWER: According to the organization’s website, the Community Pet Food Pantry is for pet owners who are experiencing temporary financial difficulty providing food for their pets. They accept donations of dog and cat food and redistribute it to pet owners in need. Any dog owner with a legally licensed dog may register to receive free food. You must show proof of dog license when you register. Cats are not required to register.

The pet food pantry is open during regular business hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends. You can also come Wednesday and Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. for pantry items and to search for a lost dog only. Pet food donations may be dropped off at any time. Open or partial bags are also accepted. Please check out the Amazon Wishlist for items to donate to the pantry.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: On the first day of the Rotary Yard Sale in Bethel I spotted a Maine Lighthouse puzzle in a saved pile on the Rotary work table. A short time later I bargained with the lady who came back for it. At first she said no, but then handed it to me and wouldn’t take any money for it. I just wanted her to know that later I paid it forward by treating a little blonde girl to a Wheel of Fortune board game. — No name, Bethel

ANSWER: This sounds like a win-win situation with a special thanks to the generous shopper who made it all possible.
