Bill Toms will be at the Rangeley Public Library on Wednesday, September 15th, at 6:00 PM to discuss his newly published book, Quiet Lives. Toms practiced family medicine with what is now Dartmouth-Hitchcock for 27 years. Upon retirement in 2005, he started to see patients at Rangeley Family Medicine, at first full-time, covering a maternity leave, and then part-time up until two years ago, when he “retired” again.

Toms has been writing short stories in verse for over fifty years, the vast majority of which are about his family, the lake, the mountains, and life in general. However, some of the stories have to do with medicine and, especially, his patients. He gathered some of these stories together in Quiet Lives out of respect, admiration, and affection for so many of these patient-friends, and hopes they serve to illuminate the truth and power in so many of their quiet lives.

Toms and his wife, Mary Angela, have a home in Rangeley as well as a home in Keene, N.H. Their lives are made full and happy by three wonderful kids, their spouses, and nine grandchildren, all of whom have grown up loving Rangeley, the mountains, and the lakes. Bill and Mary Angela enjoy hiking kayaking, gardening, and an occasional pickleball game.
