AUBURN — A federal grant of more than $3 million will help a Maine city address the problem of lead paint in dozens of homes.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development said it has awarded the city of Auburn $3.4 million to address lead in 110 housing units. The agency said the money will also make another 100 units safe from other health hazards.
The money is part of more than $90 million awarded to 28 state and local governments in 19 states.
Lead paint was banned in 1978, but it remains present in many other homes. It can pose health risks, especially to young children.
