To the Editor:
I was thrilled to actually play music with other musicians. And I was even more thrilled to play for other people, safely. Music sounds so much better when shared. And the mission of the Mahoosuc Community Band is to provide music for the enjoyment of the people in our towns.
Mahoosuc Community Band, after a hiatus during the pandemic, started rehearsing in June. Yes, we were rusty. Yet the joy of playing music together and listening to each other was wonderful. The band rehearses on Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the church basement of West Parish Congregational Church.
Monday night the band played a concert in the gazebo on the Bethel Common. We had about 100 people sitting outside in their own chairs, certainly socially distanced, who loved listening to live music again. They were obviously enjoying something that they also have missed for the last year and a half.
An additional thank you goes to directors Patricia Boyle-Wight and substitute director Simon Smith for providing musical instruction. Both love music and bring special gifts to our group. Anyone interested in playing an instrument may contact Mahoosuc Community Band president Scott Hynek at [email protected] for more information.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
