Vance Ralph Bacon

WEST PARIS – Vance Ralph Bacon, 91, passed away Sept. 25, 2021, from Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at Clover Health Care in Auburn. Vance was born in West Paris, March 1930 to Ralph Albert and Rena Vivian Swan Bacon. He graduated from West Paris High School in 1949 and lived most of his life in his hometown. On May 28,1955, he married Constance Laura Walton and they were husband and wife for 52 years, until her death in 2007. He held various jobs during his life, including at Packard Oil, Cushman Bakeries, Bell Mineral Corporation, West Paris Oil Company, J.P. Cullinan Oil, Encon Oil, Dead River Company and retired after working for Ketner’s Pharmacy. Vance was very active in his community. He was a member and officer of the West Paris Fire Department for over 40 years, a member and responder for Tri-Town Ambulance and Emergency Rescue Service for 20 years, served on the Tri-Town Search and Rescue Team, a Wayside Cemetery Association Trustee, Troop Committee Chairman of West Paris Boy Scout Troop Number 132, Trustee and member of the West Paris Universalist Church, West Paris Historical Society member and a long-time member of the West Paris Hunters Club. Vance loved spending summer vacations camping with his friends and family, and Novembers hunting the elusive whitetail. One of his best stories involved him hunting a 300-pound black bear that he said took turns hunting him! He was featured in Channel 6’s “Bill Green’s Maine” and was a character in a book entitled “The Legends of Grey Ghost”. Vance is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Bessette and her husband Bob of Fairfax, Vermont; son, Kenneth and his wife Cheryl of Otisfield, grandchildren, Emily Wills and her husband Justin, Marc and his wife Brittany and Timothy and his wife Katie; great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Colby, Grayson, (and soon to be born) Maeve, all of Fairfax, Vermont; brother-In-law, Anthony Albert of Lewiston and special friends, Linda Chandler, Milt Inman, and Clyde Knights. Vance was predeceased by his parents, his older infant brother, Leighton Albert and Vance’s wife, Connie. Due to the increase of Covid case, all services are private and by invitation only. The service will be held Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m., at the Oxford Hills Funeral Home at 1037 Main Street, Oxford. Graveside service to follow at the Wayside Cemetery, Main Street, West Paris. For those who are unable to attend the service will be livestreamed on Vance’s obituary page. Masks and social distancing are requested at both.
