LEWISTON – Ronaldo J. Bertrand Jr., 91, of Lewiston, died Saturday Sept. 26, 2021 at the Lamp Memory Care Center in Lisbon. Ronald (A.K.A. “Bert” or “June”) was born on March 29, 1930 to Ronaldo Bertrand, Sr., and Adelia Bertrand. He is survived by two of his seven sisters, Joan Caron and Marianne Marston. He is also survived by his daughter, Diane and husband Joe CIark of Oxford; son, Michael and wife Julie Bertrand of Minot; four grandchildren, Brenda Tucker, Emily Child, Everett Bertrand, and Elizabeth Bertrand, as well as eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sisters, Theresa Doustou, Bernice Bertrand, Marie Barry, Muriel Bechard, and Dorothy Violette. At the age of 17, Ronaldo joined the Marine Corp, where he served in the Korean War, participating in the Inchon Landing, and later becoming one of the “Frozen Chosin Few”- an event which left him with a lifetime of frostbite, as well as a hatred of tootsie rolls. He earned a Bronze Star Medal for single-handedly trekking up a mountain side and eliminating a sniper’s nest of enemy soldiers with his BAR. After returning from Korea, he married Antoinette Bernier on April 11, 1953. He worked for himself as a painter until retiring in the early 1990s. His wife, Antoinette, passed away on May 6, 2011. Ronaldo will always be remembered for his love of Chinese buffets, looking for spare change wherever he walked, and the dozen or so war stories he told on repeat. He will be missed, but always loved in the hearts of those who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at his son’s home on Oct. 24, 2021, from 1 to 4 p.m.
