NORWAY — A 59-year-old man from Mexico was killed Friday evening, when the car he was riding in struck the back of a tow truck on Main Street, Norway Patrolman John Lewis said.

The man died at the scene near the intersection of Marion Avenue, the officer said.

The car was driven by a 77-year-old man, also from Mexico, whose 1990s Ford Crown Victoria was headed south about 6:45 p.m. when the accident happened, Lewis said. The sedan hit a Russell & Sons Towing and Recovery flatbed tow truck from Paris. The back end of the truck was partially in the travel lane while it was being worked on in a driveway, he said.

The identities of the drivers were also not being released, Lewis said, because all necessary notifications had not been made.

The Mexico driver had minor injuries, while the 25-year-old tow truck driver from Norway was not hurt, Lewis said.

There was no estimate of the damage to either vehicle available.

Assisting Lewis were Norway police and Maine State Police and the Norway Fire Department.

Multiple calls for identification of the deceased and the drivers were not returned Saturday.
