100 Years Ago: 1921

The long-expected electrical lights have been turned on in West Auburn, the connection having been made Friday in the village. Most of the homes have already been equipped and others are being wired daily. The usual church service will be held Sunday at 2 o’clock. The Rev. C. Cummings of Auburn will preach.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Henry Nason of 468 Court St. Auburn doesn’t understand it, but the raspberry patch on his property is producing a second crop. The raspberries are blooming and are already red. They should be ready in a couple of weeks if the frost doesn’t kill them. Charles Eastman of 255 Summer St.. Auburn, former County Extension Service Agent, said he had never heard in his 45 years in the area of such a second crop of raspberries. He pointed out that this has been an unusually warm fall, and that might have some effect. Nason reported the raspberries are ones he planted several years ago, but does not know what variety they are. He has between 200 and 400 bushes.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Readers in the Farmington area who have unusual pets and would like to be part of a feature article for the Franklin County section of the Sun-Journal should contact staff writer Sandy Gregor. Possible candidates would be Chinese crested dogs, hairless cats, miniature horses, Moluccan hissing cockroaches or boa constrictors. Other pets with unusual qualities will also be considered.
