BETHEL — Telstar finished the regular season undefeated in the eight-man Small School South division on Saturday with a 52-0 victory over Traip Academy.

“The morale is very high,” Telstar head coach Tim O’Connor said. “We talk to the kids about one game at a time, don’t get overconfident. Our thinking was just one game at a time. We will see how the standings shake out on Tuesday but it looks like we will be (No. 1) and will be matched up with Traip. After talking to their coach, I don’t think they’ll come.”

O’Connor said quarterback Will Doyle stepped up in Saturday’s win, scoring on the ground and through the air.

“He’s unreal for us,” O’Connor said. “He is very coachable and because he is very coachable it makes it easier for us in terms of plays. We call the plays but in his head he is always thinking about the next step. We run one play and see what they’re doing and then call another play and he’s thinking that, too. He also has good communication with his receivers.”

While Doyle was big at the quarterback spot, freshman Hunter Winslow also was a player who came up big when the Rebels needed him.

“He stepped up and we did some running to the outside and was getting eight to 10 yards a carry,” O’Connor said. “Week after week, we’ve had kids that have stepped up and it’s because we work with those kids during the week and we are looking for them. It seems like it’s someone different every week.”

If Telstar does have a bye week, O’Connor said he hopes to get a couple players back to full health.
