Alton E. Whitney

LEWISTON – Alton E. Whitney, 89, of Lewiston passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021 surrounded by family. He was born June 17, 1932, son of the late Alphonso & Laura Newcomb Whitney.

Alton graduated from North Yarmouth Academy and then proudly served in the USAF in the Korean War. He was married to JoAnn Shaw Whitney in 1956 and raised one son and four daughters. They lived in North Yarmouth and then their final years were in Lewiston.

Alton was predeceased by his wife JoAnn of 63 years; his son Harold Whitney; and several siblings. He is survived by one sister, Nellie W. Campbell and two brothers, Stanley Whitney, Warren Whitney Sr. both of Florida; daughters, Bonnie W. Dyro and husband Dennis of Gray, Julie W. Busler and husband Jerry of Florida, Jolyn M. Whitney and partner Ed Fogg of Lewiston, Alice W. Crawford and Dan of Auburn; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He retired from S.D. Warren Paper in Westbrook. Alton always had a smile and a helping hand for everyone. He loved his family sharing life stories, camping, history, religion and traveling with his wife.

A memorial reception will be held Saturday, Oct. 23 from 2:30-6:30 p.m.. at Free Grace Presbyterian Church on Canal St. in Lewiston. Online condolences may be sent to http://www.funeralalternatives.net.
