John R. Hodgson Sr.

RUMFORD – Mr. John R. Hodgson Sr., 86, died Tuesday Oct. 19, 2021 at his residence on the Isthmus Road in Rumford.

Born in Auburn on May 23, 1935, he was a son of Leroy and Thelma (Glover) Hodgson. John attended Rumford schools and served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 and the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1961. He worked for JA Thurston as a lift operator. John was a communicant of the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church and was also a member of the Napoleon Ouellette Post #24 American Legion.

John was married in Mexico on March 9, 1963 to Therese Arsenault who survives, of Rumford. Other survivors include his sons John Jr. and wife Mandy of South Carolina, Richard of Rumford, Patrick of South Carolina, daughters Sheila Lane of South Carolina, Robin Hodgkins of Dixfield and Tammy Milledge and husband Steve of Mexico; a brother, Alton Hodgson of Rumford, sisters Hattie Freeman of Byron, Mavis Varnum Powell of Mexico, Judy Flagg of Turner; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Billy, a daughter, Carrie Coleman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday Nov. 4 at the Parish of the Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. Friends and family are invited to call at the Meader and Son Funeral Home, 3 Franklin St. on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
