A Halloween masquerade and dance will be given in Auburn Hall Monday evening under the auspices of the Royal Neighbors of America. The Cushman Hollis Employees Association has arranged an elaborate entertainment program and Marble’s orchestra will furnish music.

The charming home of Mrs. G. Carleton Snow, Old Tavern Shop at Litchfield will be the scene of a silver tea being held tomorrow afternoon between 1:30 and five o’clock. Hostess group is the Women’s Society of Christian Service of the Auburn United Methodist Church and the tea is open to members and their friends. Among those working on preparations are, Mrs. George Sjostrom, Mrs. Alton McFadden, Mrs. Clarence Cole, and Mrs. Quentin Hall. Members of the original committee are Mrs. Lawrence K. Davis, Mrs. Charles Wight II, Mrs. Thomas Johnson, Mrs. Marjorie Merrill and Mrs. Maurice Keene. Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Wight prepared the invitations and Mrs. Johnson will serve as hostesses, who include Mrs. Louis Talarieo Jr, Mrs. Fred Taylor, Mrs. Glenn Whittier, Mrs. Russell G. Snow, Mrs. Robert Larrabee, Mrs. Gerald Spencer, Miss Catherine Decoster, Mrs. Ronald Potts and Mrs. Arthur Stimpson. Pourers, directed by Mrs. Merrill, will be Mrs. Victor Musk, Mrs. Ronald Logan, Erlon Dunlap, Mrs. Albert Eustis, Mrs. W. A. Annis, Mrs. Ruth E. McShane and Mrs. Azel Faunce.

A choir and orchestra joined in Handel’s Messiah for Pope John Paul II on Thursday to open a series of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood. The pope applauded then shook hands with some of the 7,000 spectators as he walked out of a Vatican auditorium. The 76-year-old pontiff smiled and appeared in good health during his most strenuous public event since surgery Oct. 8 to remove an inflamed appendix.
