Lewiston Public Library, at 200 Lisbon St., is scheduled to be closed to the public Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 17-19, and will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 20.

During the closure, the library will continue its Radio Frequency Identification conversion work. The library invested in RFID technology for its 160,000-item collection, which will allow for faster checkouts and in the future, and self-check stations for patron use. Each item in the collection will be given an RFID tag linked to the library’s catalog, to improve findability and security of the collection.

During the closure, security gates compatible with the new technology will also be installed, and library staff will continue with RFID tagging.

Online services will continue to be available 24/7 at libraryla.org. Interlibrary loan and LPL to Go, the library’s door side pickup service, will also be available during the closure. Patrons can come to the library at their convenience once they receive a hold notification by phone or email. Staff will pack items upon arrival and meet patrons at the library’s Pine Street door.
