Elaine Louise (Martin) Moreau

LEWISTON – Elaine Louise (Martin) Moreau, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in Lewiston on Oct. 30, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lewiston, on April 21, 1933 to Albert and Blanche (Houle) Martin.

Elaine went to school at the Ave Maria Academy in Sabattus and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1950. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1954 and a master’s degree in 1978 from the University of Maine Orono. She taught French at Oxford Hills High School, in Virginia, and most of her career at Lewiston High School where she retired in 1986.

Elaine was a member of Androscoggin Retired Teachers Association, MEA, NEA, Delta Kappa Gamma (DKG) International Teachers Sorority, and Women’s Legislative Council of Maine. She was a member of Holy Family Church and the Parish Council, a Eucharistic Minister, Pastoral Caregiver, and member of the Ladies of St. Anne Solidarity. She was also active in the Women’s Golf league at Prospect and a member of an RV group called the Pine Tree Gypsy’s.

Elaine was a devoted wife, grandmother and great grandmother. She was an avid reader, built doll houses, was a skier, knitted afghans for all her grandchildren to remember her by, and loved playing cards with her dearest friends.

She was predeceased to the love of her life, her friend and darling husband Major (Ret.) Thaddee F. Moreau in 2008, whom she married in 1954. She followed her husband wherever stationed, living at various Army bases in the U.S. and abroad.

Elaine leaves behind her daughter, Diane A Moreau (Ratliff) of Lewiston, a son David A. Moreau and his wife Diane of Lewiston. Also her six grandchildren, Bryan and wife Kelly, Jennifer and husband Rory, Matthew, Joshua, Maryke and Marty. In addition six great-grandchildren, Lauren, Weston, Evan , Savannah, Rowen and Daphne.

Visiting hours will be held 9-10 am Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Fortin Funeral Group, 70 Horton Street, Lewiston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 4 at the Holy Family Church, 607 Sabattus Street, Lewiston.
