The Lewiston Public Library plans to provide a free, public screening of the 2015 documentary film “No Greater Love” at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, in Callahan Hall at the 200 Lisbon St. The screening will start with an introduction from Dr. Chris Price.
“No Greater Love” is the first documentary directed by an active duty soldier in combat. This film tells the story of how an Army chaplain and his men fight their way through a tour in one of the most dangerous places in Afghanistan and what it’s like for them as they struggle to find their way home again.
The film is directed by Justin Roberts, and has a running time of 98 minutes.
Price, visiting assistant professor of politics at Bates College, will provide a brief introduction to the film at the beginning of the screening, focusing on the ethical complexities of conflict as they relate to American soldiers. Price earned his doctorate at Yale University, and has since been the Wisconsin International Relations Fellow at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Chicago.
At Bates, he teaches courses on conflict, security and ethnicity. Price studies the dynamics and legacies of political violence, and is particularly interested in how violence affects ethnic and other group identities.
Admission is free. Kanopy, an on-demand streaming video platform available to all library cardholders, will be used to stream the film during this screening. Because of the graphic nature of the film, viewer discretion is advised.
Under current masking requirements at the library, refreshments will not be provided or permitted during the screening.
