100 Years Ago: 1921

The appeal by the Lewiston and Auburn Red Cross chapter for partly worn clothing and garments that can be remodeled has met a ready response and a good supply has already been received, all of which can be put to excellent use.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Members of the Pitch-In 4 H Club met recently with Mrs. Shirley Keene, Auburn. It was announced that Linda Keene would attend the National 4H Conference in Chicago. During the evening, the following officers were elected: David Gilpatric, president; Linda Keene, vice president; Nancy Thurston, secretary; Janice Starbird, treasurer; David Lane, reporter; Karen Hatch and Marilyn Huotari, recreation leaders; Steven Keene and Arnie Houtari, flag bearers; and Penny Cook and Bobby Hatch, song leaders. Rustic pictures were made following the election.

25 Years Ago: 1996

In his last stint as host of “This Week,” a Sunday morning television Institution, veteran newsman David Brinkley apologized to President Clinton, whom he had referred to as “a bore” on election night. Clinton accepted Brinkley’s apology, saying, “I always believe you have to judge people on their whole work.”
