Evangeline M. Jackson

FARMINGTON – Evangeline M. Jackson, 86, of Carthage, passed away at Edgewood Rehab and Living Center in Farmington on Nov. 10, 2021. She was born on Feb. 22, 1935, on the family farm in Peru, daughter of Charles and Lydia Knox. She attended the Dixfield Grammar School. Evangeline worked at Bass Shoe, and several novelty wood mills in Carthage and Weld. She was known as the hardest working woman in the area. Evangeline enjoyed berry picking, her flowers, birds, and all animals. She had a passion for showing her horses and winning many ribbons. She kept active by walking, and climbed Tumbledown Mountain at 69 years old. She rode a moped most of her life until the age of 75 when she had an accident which started the decline in her health.
Evangeline is survived by three sons, Melvin Knox (Beth), Robert Jackson (Lisa), and Calvin Jackson (Johnna), all of Carthage; her sister, Geraldine Virgin of Mexico; grandchildren, Valorie Antone, Spencer Knox, Justin and Jacob Jackson, Jeremy, Joel and Joshua Jackson; and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; son, Hazen Jackson; great grandson, Austin Barker; siblings, Muriel, Llewelyn, Erwin, Theodore, Randall, Janice, Dermaline, Donald, and Eugene.
A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, at 1 p.m., at the Newman Cemetery in Carthage. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Service, 488 Farmington Falls Rd., Farmington, ME 04938.
