The Jersey Hitman must have eaten their Wheaties before Saturday morning’s game against the Twin City Thunder.

The Hitmen defeated the Thunder 7-1 in a USPHL National Collegiate Development Conference game at the Islanders Hockey Club showcase in North Andover, Massachusetts.

The Hitmen have a league-leading 85 goals this season.

Forward Alex Dameski had two goals and an assist for the Hitmen (13-7-1, 27 points). Former Maine Nordiques player Dominiks Marcinkevics had three assists. His brother Patrick also had three assists.

The scoring started just past the three-minute mark of the first period when Vincent Gould gave the Hitmen a 1-0 lead.

Near the midway point of the first period, Steven Spetz scored his first goal of the year for a 2-0 lead.

The Hitmen scored two quick goals to start the second period. Dylan Lugris scored his 12th goal of the season on the power play 26 seconds into the frame. Dameski scored to put the Hitmen up 4-0, and the Thunder (9-9-1, 19 points) pulled goalie Brody Haynes (14 saves) after the goal.

Haynes was the NCDC North Division goalie of the week for the past two weeks.

Nick Bernstein (27 saves) didn’t fare any better in the Thunder net. Michael DiPietro stretched the lead to 5-0 just past the eight-minute mark of the second period. Will Traeger scored a power-play goal for the sixth Hitmen goal.

In the third period, Dameski scored his second goal of the morning to stretch the lead to 7-0. The Marcinkevics brothers recorded the assists.

Lyncoln Bielenberg-Howarth put the Thunder on the board later in the third period to stop Peyton Grainer’s shutout bid. Grainer made 30 saves in the game.

The Thunder have an extended break and won’t return to action until Friday, Dec. 3, when the Boston Junior Bruins come to Norway Savings Bank Arena at 7:30 p.m.
