Lt. Detective Wayne J. Gallant is this week’s featured Rumford Police Department member  in the Rumford cop card series. Gallant has been in law enforcement since 1988. He has helped area youngsters avoid drug use by serving as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education instructor since 1988. Gallant offers two safety tips for young people. A vehicle is not a playground, he warns. Youngsters should be responsible passengers by always buckling up. He also believes effort counts as much as winning. Being a winner doesn’t just mean a person has  to be first to cross the finish line. Just crossing the line makes someone a winner, he believes. Gallant enjoys sports and outdoor activities. He and his wife, Sandy, are the parents of three sons. His card is available from any Rumford Police officer during the week of Nov. 20 through Nov. 26. It may also be picked up at the Rumford station.
