Jeanne Gardner Lauze

AUBURN – Jeanne Gardner Lauze, 82, passed away peacefully on Nov. 17, 2021, at Clover Health Care Facility. She was born on May 12, 1939, in Auburn, to Arsene and Cecile (Bussiere) Gardner. She was educated in the Auburn School System and is a 1958 graduate of Edward Little High School.

After graduation, she entered religious life with the sisters of St. Joseph and received her bachelor’s degree in Education from St. Josephs College in Standish. She taught as a sister for 13 years in Jay, Winslow, Waterville and Lewiston.

In 1970, after leaving religious life, she met and married Richard W. Lauze and together raised five children. Jeanne was a teacher in the Lewiston, Auburn, Durham and Norway elementary and middle schools. After receiving her master’s degree in education in the 1970s, she was principal of Durham Elementary School. In her later years, she taught special needs children in Norway until her retirement in 1994.

She belonged to St. Phillip’s Catholic Church in Auburn, was a member of the Auburn Snowmobile Association, a member of civil air patrol, and was an ardent New England Patriots fan. She enjoyed living on Crystal Lake in Canton.

She was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, Richard W. Lauze (d. June, 5, 1995), her parents, Arsene and Cecile Gardner, and her in-laws William and Germaine Lauze. She is survived by her longtime companion, Norman Trenoweth, her siblings, Gerard Gardner and wife Pauline, Paul Gardner and wife Marnie, and Marguerite Gardner; her children, Ann M. Brooks, MD and husband Andy, Scott Lauze, MD and husband Mark, Lisa Albert and husband Kevin, Bill Lauze and wife Lina, and Daniel Lauze and wife Jennifer; as well as 18 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday Nov. 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Philips Church in Auburn. Committal will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
