The Friends of the Lewiston Public Library plan to host a book sale from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.

The sale will be held in Callahan Hall at 200 Lisbon St. library, at the corner of Pine Street in Lewiston. The event will be preceded by the Friends annual meeting at 10 a.m.

There will be a large selection of fiction and nonfiction items for all ages, including audiobooks, music CDs and DVDs.

Payment must be in the form of cash or check. The pricing is a fill-a-bag method as follows:

• $5 to fill a plastic bag provided by Shaw’s;

• $8 to fill one’s own standard size reusable shopping bag; and

• $10 to purchase and fill a larger LPL logo bag.

All proceeds from sales and donations are used to fund library programs, special events and purchases not covered by the annual budget.

The Friends of LPL is a nonprofit organization that assists the library with facility, service, and resource development. For many years, the Friends have supported programming at the library (helping, for example, launch what is now know as LA Arts). More recently, Friends contributions have been even more tangible. In 1995, members of the Friends successfully lobbied the Lewiston City Council to expand the library facility. A year later, the Friends initiated a capital campaign that resulted in $600,000 in gifts from more than 400 individuals, businesses, and foundations, enough to complete the final expansion of the library and to secure the furniture and equipment necessary for a state-of-the-art facility.
