100 Years Ago: 1921

Tom Young, well known professional dancer and a native of Lewiston, has accepted Pecker Wood’s challenge to compete in a championship dancing contest and will appear in Beacon Hall Monday evening. Mr. Wood is conceded to be Portland’s champion dancer, but Lewiston people believe he will be defeated by Mr. Young and his Lewiston partner. The challenger will go on at 9.45 and Mr. Young at 10:30. Dufresne’s orchestra will furnish music.

50 Years Ago: 1971

The Hi-Y of Edward Little High School is sponsoring a coffee shop that is held during first and second periods of the school day. The club, supervised by Dale Carter, hopes that the coffee shop will be as successful this year as it was last year. A variety of donuts; coffee, cocoa and milk is sold. Club members volunteer their services for running the coffee shop giving up their free periods for this service.

25 Years Ago: 1996

Members of New Beginnings Peer Educators Group TOUCH (Teaching Others Understanding Caring and Healing) is currently involved In a canned goods/non perishable food collection. They will use contributions in assembling care boxes for families in need in the Lewiston-Auburn area. Anyone wishing to donate goods may leave items at the New Beginnings office at 436 Main St., Lewiston. Working on this project are Alicia Paige, Paul Cote, Magan Hallman, Mike Davis, and peer advisor Jody Pierce Glover. This group recently traveled to Washington, D.C., to work as volunteers at the AIDS Memorial Quilt display.
