100 Years Ago: 1921
“I have just received a tentative plan of the state highway commission regarding what they promise to do this coming year and what I have to say is this: Androscoggin County is coming into its own. More money is going to be spent on the roads than ever spent before.” These were the words of Hon. Ernest F. Clason of Lisbon, member of the governor’s council and a director of the Maine State Automobile Association in his address to the members of the Lewiston-Auburn Automobile Association banquet in the New Odd Fellows Hall, Auburn Monday night.
50 Years Ago: 1971
Parents of the Head Start and Child Care programs operated by the Androscoggin County Task Force on Social Welfare have designated the period, Jan.15 to Jan. 30 as “Booster Weeks” and during this period all parent groups are planning fundraising events to help raise money so that the Child Care program can continue to operate after June,1972.

Leo Dasslar, president of The McLaughlin Foundation, Inc., in South Paris will be featured on Bud Johnson’s show at 10 a.m. on WGAN radio Portland. Dassler and a group of local volunteers who are seeking to purchase the Bernard McLaughlin estate on Main Street, hoping to establish an educational and horticulture center for Maine.
