Shirley C. Staples

RUMFORD – Shirley C. Staples passed peacefully at the Rumford Community Home on Dec. 12, 2021 at the age of 91 with her children by her side.

She was born Dec. 15, 1929 to Albert and Mavis Roy. She attended schools in Mexico and graduated from Stephen’s High School in Rumford.

She married Ernest A. Billings on Nov. 8, 1952 and was a homemaker and raised five children. Ernest died in 1983 and in 1984 she married Sewell Staples. She enjoyed traveling, knitting, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her five children, Linda Tate, Susan Fox, Barbara Childs, Brenda Wight, and Dennis Billings and their spouses, in addition to stepchildren. She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her first and second husbands; all of her four siblings; and Matthew and Harry Childs. She will be greatly missed!
