Recognizing the national economic emergency caused by the pandemic, the U.S. Department of Labor has issued a National Dislocated Workers Grant to assist workers who have been dislocated as a result of COVID-19.

This emergency grant provides individualized assistance to anyone over 18 whose job has been negatively impacted by the pandemic. Working through the Eastern Maine Development Corp., Workforce Maine can offer the grant’s services to eligible Mainers in Androscoggin, Franklin, Kennebec, Oxford and Somerset counties at no cost to participants.

When someone contacts the Development Corp., the enrollment process begins with a determination of eligibility and a needs assessment. Eligible individuals are then referred to organizations who offer services such as housing, food and health care. EMDC staff will work one-on-one with participants to identify their work priorities, build individualized career plans and navigate systems along the way. Through resume help, interview preparation and potential skills training and education, participants can become better equipped to get their next job.

Eastern Maine Development Corp. offices are located throughout the state. For more information or to connect with a workforce development specialist, contact workforce@emdc.org or (207) 991-0147.
