Ricky S. Young Sr.

LISBON FALLS – Ricky Stephen “Fog Dog” Young Sr., 65, of Lisbon Falls, died peacefully at CMMC in Lewiston on Dec. 7, 2021.

Born in Anaheim, Calif., on Dec. 5, 1956, Ricky came to Maine with his family as a child and graduated from Lisbon High School in 1976. He had a son, Ricky Jr., in 1978, and a daughter, Randi, in 1984.

Known for his long hair, ever-present cigar, and booming, gravelly voice, Ricky was simultaneously an imposing figure and a big-hearted friend to all.

A skilled cook and a talented artist, Ricky delighted friends and family with his culinary concoctions and his woodworking, leatherworking, and pen and pencil on paper creations. He enjoyed being outdoors, whether in a pool, at a camp, by a fire, or on the beach, especially when he was with friends, which he always was. He did not however, like footwear, and he spent as much time as possible barefoot, no matter what the surface beneath him.

Ricky was a lover of good times, and he could always be found wherever the party was. Or perhaps it was that the party could always be found wherever he was.

His greatest love – and greatest pride – though, was for his grandchildren, on whom he doted endlessly. Nearly everybody knew him as “Fog,” but the name he most treasured, by far, was “Papa.”

Ricky is survived by his son, Ricky Young Jr., of Auburn and daughter, Randi Young of Bethel; his grandchildren Erika Daigle of Lisbon and Dominick and Markus Thompson of Lewiston; his parents Harriet and Larry Hawkins of Lisbon Falls; his siblings Reggie Young of Brunswick, Ronald Hawkins of Alexandria, Va., Kathy McLemore (and husband Joey) of Dyersburg, Tenn., and Angela Finley (and husband Johnny) of Malvern, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews. He also had an older brother, Roger Young (and longtime significant other Pamela Hertell), but Roger passed away less than two weeks after Ricky did.
