Ludger J.T. Labbay

LEWISTON – On Dec. 17, 2021, Ludger “Lou” Labbay left this earthly life from home in Lewiston, Maine surrounded by loved ones. Lou was born on Feb. 22, 1931, to Leda (Roy) and Arthur Labbay in Auburn, Maine where he was raised in Lewiston with his brother and four sisters. Lou joined the U.S. Navy at an early age where he sailed throughout the world. In April of 1951, he married his childhood sweetheart Laurianne “Sunshine” (Gagne) Labbay. After nine years and two children, Lou left the Navy and joined the U.S. Air Force. He and Laurianne had four more children. After 20 years in the U.S. Military, Lou retired in Lisbon, Maine where he built a home to raise his six children. Laurianne passed away in 1992. Lou was lost for a while until he met Constance “Connie” Mailhot. They married in 1993 and built a home in Bowdoin which he considered his pride and joy. They spent 22 winters in Florida and traveled throughout United States. Lou always loved to take drives in the countryside affectionately referred to as “rides to nowhere.” Lou was a very spiritual man and had great faith in God. Nothing made Lou happier than family, especially when all six of his “Chickies” were around him. He enjoyed a good hot dog and fried chicken. Lou always had an American flag flying in dedication to his love for the United States. He was a hardworking man but loved to relax with loved ones while camping and making his famous donuts. Lou leaves behind his wife, Constance Labbay and children, Kathryn (Michel) Dostie of Lisbon, David (Monique) Labbay of Bowdoin, George (Gunda) Labbay of Germany, Ursula (Michael) Jackson of Lisbon Falls, Denise Atkins of Alabama, and John (Lisa) Labbay of Bowdoin; stepchildren Andre (Cindy) Poulin of Florida, Anne (Nicholas) Gennaro of North Carolina, and Robert Poulin of Auburn, fourteen grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sisters Charlotte (Lollypop) Landry of Bowdoin and Pauline (Richard) Blais of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; In-laws Colombe Lavallier, Raynald Mailhot, and Denise Schreiber all of Lewiston. Lou was predeceased by first wife Laurianne Labbay, newborn son Daniel, his parents, sisters Rita (Lawrence) Violette and Terese (Lawrence) Emmons and brother Ludovic “Lucky” (Fleurette) Labbay.
